About

hi I'm Sam rawlins
I’m a non-binary queer artist and illustrator based in Wiltshire, originally from the land of the dragon — South Wales.
I’ve had a pencil in my hand for as long as I can remember. Growing up, art was my escape — a way to step into new worlds and express what words couldn’t. That’s where the magic began for me: discovering that I could turn feelings into images and stories into colour.
My love for storytelling started early, inspired by comic books, superheroes, and Disney classics like Mulan and Robin Hood. Those worlds of adventure and heart sparked my fascination with anthropomorphism — animals with voices, emotions, and stories of their own.
Today, I create as both self-expression and connection. My illustrations are bold, playful, and rooted in magical realism — a style that lets me explore places and possibilities beyond reality. Anthropomorphic characters, like Arlo and my non-binary raccoon, carry pieces of my own story, blending emotion and imagination into something uniquely personal.
Art has always grounded me and brought me joy, even through challenges like ADHD, dyslexia, and mental health struggles. Creating quite literally saved me — and now it’s how I reach out to others. I hope my work makes people think, smile, or feel a spark of curiosity, even in tough times.
When I’m not illustrating, you’ll probably find me outdoors — camping, exploring nature, or surrounded by music. My love for animals and the natural world often finds its way into my art too.
At its heart, my work is about connection. I want people to see a piece of themselves in my characters — to step into a story and feel, even for a moment, that spark of magic I found as a child.
Thanks for stopping by. Have a look around, and if something speaks to you, let’s create something together.
